I’ve just
been told that Covey Run will open its tasting room in Apple Farm Village on Saturday morning after the Covey Run 10K run takes place. They are in the old Village Wines spot.

I was invited to attend a Taste & Tweet at Bin on the Lake last week. Bin on the Lake is located at the Woodmark Hotel on the Kirkland waterfront. They are now open for lunch daily for 11am-2pm and they picked a beautiful day to host some bloggers and tweeters to do some tasting. We began with Beef Brisket
Sliders with slaw with a Cucumber Breeze mocktail. Both were very delicious. Next up were Scallops PLT which is Prosciutto, Lettuce and Tomato paired with a Sparking Grapefruit mocktail with rosemary and lime. The scallops were wonderful and juicy. We also had Pressed Pork paired with Chateau Ste. Michelle Eroica and Saffron Summer Succotash paired with Rombauer Vineyards Chardonnay. [click to continue…]

I had the opportunity to experience a new program from Willows Lodge the other day. GeoHop is based on the sport of geocaching. You receive a GPS receiver and a sheet with clues to help you find the wine destinations. You plug in the location code and follow the compass to the next winery to get the answer to your clues. You get 2 1/2 hours to GeoHop so [click to continue…]

I”m trying something new to help everyone and myself out by posting upcoming events with a weekly happenings post. I know myself that it’s hard to keep track of what’s going on in Woodinville. Thanks to Sean Sullivan at Washington Wine Report for the idea. Every week there are so many events; I’m not complaining, it’s just difficult to keep up. Tell me what you think and if you have any suggestions for a witty and clever name for the post.
Pour on the Plaza – Saturday, August 14th – 2-5pm – ElGaucho Bellevue
Elsom Cellars BBQ Block Party with Maximus/Minimus - Sunday, August 15th – 2:30-4:30 [click to continue…]

Since Obelisco Estate tasting room in Woodinville has not yet received permission from the the city to open to the public, I set up a meeting with Manny Loya who is the tasting room manager. Manny told me they were having some paperwork issues with the city about a building permit and that they were hard a work to remedy this problem. I tasted through “Tejen” Syrah, Malbec, Red Blend, Merlot, and an “Elecktrum” Cabernet Sauvignon, all 2008 vintage. I think the one word I would use to describe these wines is elegant. I headed up to Mt. Rainier the other week with a couple of friends. This trip had been discussed but continually put off and at last it was going to work out. You can see we picked a beautiful day to wander around up at Henry Jackson Visitor Center which has historic information on the mountain. We then hit a few of the trails leading up to Mt. Rainier. There was still some snow on the lower trails which we were on. After
wandering around for awhile we went over to Paradise Inn to see what it offered. We did manage to find a glass of Columbia Crest wine and sat out on the patio to enjoy the incredible day.

I just heard that Obelisco Estate tasting room in Woodinville will not be opening up this weekend. Seems that the city is not signing off on them opening their doors yet. Something about a building permit.
