I had a little bit of dirt under my fingernails from A Day in the Vineyard up at Hollywood Hill Vineyards. They are the only producer of grapes in the Woodinville area. They have about 3,000 vines up on their property of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, which do well on the west side of the Cascades and which is part of the Puget Sound AVA. Steve believes in organic grape growning and does not use weed killers.
Part of our job on Saturday was to pull the leaves off of the bottom of the vines so the grapes would be more exposed to the sun and ripen up, to prune the clusters that would not get ripe, and tuck vines that had popped out. The wine from this vineyard will make Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, and hopefully some delicious Pinot Noir Rose. It’s an interesting perspective to see where your wine begins before it hits your glass. The next step is coming up with harvest in a few weeks.
Hollywood Hill Vineyards is having a Harvest Dinner up at the winery on Friday, September 25th and they have a few spots left. Go check out our de-leafing and pruning job.
