Team Tulalip and Woodinville Wine Cellars Craft Taste of Tulalip 6th Anniversary Blend
Tulalip Resort Casino sommelier Tom Thompson and Woodinville Wine Cellars winemaker Sean Boyd drained the barrels dry searching for the ideal grape “marriage” on their journey to craft Taste of Tulalip’s 6th anniversary wine. This joint venture between the 2014 Honorary Winemaker and the property’s wine team resulted in a distinctive one-of-a-kind cuvee composed of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 20% Malbec, and 20% Petit Verdot from Boyd’s 2012 harvest. This is a first time collaboration for the winery.
The proprietary blend will be introduced during the Friday, November 14 Celebration Dinner. It will be available for purchase in the event wine shop during this annual two-day festival, with a focus on wine, food and tradition.
“The creation of the 6th anniversary wine was a unique, hands-on opportunity for our team to immerse themselves in the art of blending this year’s bottling. As the six of us ran from barrel to barrel, sampling the different varietals, we felt like kids in a candy store. In the end it came down to a day of sniffing, tasting, and swirling along with a bit of finesse,” says Lisa Severn, Food and Beverage Director.
Joe Gobin, honored artist for the 6th annual Taste of Tulalip, created this year’s signature artwork. The piece is engraved on the front of the commemorative bottle. It is rich in symbolism, containing elements from numerous Coast Salish journeys from the past and that look to the future.
After working five years for a California wine shop, Honorary Winemaker Sean Boyd left home at age 20 to learn the fine art of winemaking. His travels led him all over the world to top viticulture areas such as Australia, Portugal, Spain and New Zealand where he worked for several prominent wineries, perfecting his technique. According to Sean, his finest artistic contribution is achieved during the final blending stage — as certain lots come together harmoniously.

The Taste of Tulalip says only five WA wineries??? Is this true or poor marketing?…..if more, how thought can it be to update a web site??

There may only be five Washington wineries for this event. It is not a Washington wine event; they have wines from all over the world. It’s a great opportunity to taste outside of our backyard.
