On September 12th I was invited to Efeste to a sneak preview of their upcoming wines that are to be released in November and next Spring. I was invited to taste the Adrienne Chardonnay, Sauvage Sauvignon Blanc, Nana Right Bank Bordeaux Blend, and Upright Merlot.
A highlight of the tasting was a tour was a behind the scenes peak with Winemakers Brennon Leighton and PeterDevison and Assistant Winemaker, Ben Ferris. Crush had already begun and there was a pressing of Sauvignon Blanc from Boushey Vineyards. We even had a sip of the pressed grapes. Why don’t they bottle this for some socially acceptable morning drinking? It was delicious and just slightly sweet.
The Adrienne is a new Chardonnay with rich with a touch of sweetness and a slight hint of oak which gave it a creamy texture. This is a beautiful winter white wine. I have to say that I really enjoyed the 2011 Sauvage Sauv Blanc from Boushey Vineyards with it’s layers of aromas and citrus flavors. We moved on to the reds where the Nana Right Bank Bordeaux. I love Merlot dominant Bordeaux’s and this one did not disappoint with rich fruit flavors. The Upland Merlot would make Rex Pickett, author of Sideways, apologize about disparaging Merlot. I always say that they were talking about California Merlot in the movie. This wine might change Miles mind also. Soft, rich, and delicious, not overtly fruity. I believe I asked for another taste of this one.
