I have heard that the AAS Wine Degree Program at Lake Washington Technology Institute will be cut after the spring quarter in 2012. It seems to be a victim of budget cutbacks due and to not maintaining a working winery on the premise as it was too costly. Two other programs; cosmetology and plant and building maintenence were also cut. There may be more program cuts in the future.
The program is run by David Coan who is Sommelier certified and specializes in Italian and Northwest wines. The Wine Technology AAS degree was created to prepare students for careers in wine production, tasting room management, restaurant wine service, wine marketing, and wholesale and retail sales.
