Edmonds Winery: Teams with Piccola Cellars

by Shona Milne on July 11, 2011

Some may have heard the news that Edmonds Winery and Piccola Cellars will be teaming up for a joint venture. Piccola Cellars which was located in Snoquamie will be running their operation in the Edmonds Winery jointly. Doug and Lael are moving toward retirement and want to start easing out of the day to day operations. Doug will continue to make wine and you will see Doug, Lael and Bentley in the tasting room but not as often.

This is the letter that went out to the Edmonds Winery wine club member for more of the details.

Hi there, my name is Diana Kaspic, and I’m one of the owners of Piccola Cellars Winery. I’m writing to introduce you to us and our company. We are a small wine company, based in the Snoqualmie Valley, and have been working with Doug and Lael over the past 6 months or so.  We opened our doors as a distributor and have been buying some of Doug’s red wines and selling them into the retail market. We have enjoyed working with Doug and had great success selling his wine.

In fact, we’ve enjoyed working with Doug so much that we’ve decided to expand our relationship. As many of you know, Doug and Lael have been looking to scale back their work load and begin the process of moving towards retirement.  Conversely, we have been looking to increase the scope of our business and develop some new markets.  After several conversations, we realized that we had a golden opportunity to help each other move toward our respective futures.  As such, Doug and Lael are going to step back a bit and Piccola Cellars will take over some of their responsibilities. We are going to assume primary responsibility for running the tasting room, lease space in the warehouse, and run our winery from the same location as Edmonds Winery.  Doug will continue to make wine although not at the same pace as he has previously.

What does this mean for you as a Wine Club Member?  Hopefully more. You will still receive all the same privledges and discounts that you are entitled to with Edmonds Winery – including first dibs on new releases, price discounts on wine and merchandise and access to the winery and Doug and Lael.  Additionally, you will get a front row seat on some of the new initiatives that Piccola Cellars is going to roll out. We are a little different from our winery neighbors – all of our wine is packaged and sold in keg format.  In fact, we are the only winery in Washington that is solely devoted to Wine-on-Tap.  We currently have seven wines that we offer (2 are made by Doug) three types of kegs to choose from, and Wine-to-Go in refillable bottles. We also offer  the opportunity to get “Tapped In” our version of a traditional wine club. Discounts, free goodies, access to exclusive new realeases, invites to special parties?  You bet. And, as a member of Edmonds Wine Club you will receive and additional 5% on all purchases.

Doug and Lael will still be around although we’ll do the heavy lifting in terms of staffing and managing the tasting room. To help stay in touch, we will post updates on their whereabouts and when you can expect them in the tasting room (plus other fun stuff. )
