While I was in southern California the other week I made a stop in one of my favorite places; Wyland Gallery in Laguna Beach. While enjoying the art I saw a couple bottles of wine with Wyland art on them and asked Kim, who works at the gallery, what the story was. She told me that Wyland partnered with Laguna Canyon Winery back in 2005 to make his wines. A portion of the proceeds from the wines go to the Wyland Foundation which supports clean water, environment, and protection of sea life.
The Laguna Canyon Winery is just up the road from the gallery so I made a trip to try the wines. I tried four of the Wyland wines. I thought that the 2008 Wyland Honu (Napa) was a very nice white blend. It’s Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc with clean, crisp citrus flavors. I’d drink this on the beach any day. A great Summer Sipper. I also tried 2006 Organic Syrah (Los Carneros), 2007 Orcas Shooting Stars (Sonoma), and 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon (Sonoma). I really like the Honu and the Cabernet Sauvignon the best. I enjoyed tasting all of the wines and like that you can help the environment and sea life while drinking these wines.
