I spent a few days over in the Yakima area and finally made it to the Red Mountain AVA. Two exciting words when mentioned in a wine context. I’ve had a goal of going to Col Solare for awhile and I did make it on this trip. It’s great when you round a corner and see it sitting up on the hill. To say they have an amazing view is an understatement. I could have stayed there a few hours to enjoy the view over the valley. I did the winemakers flight which included their 2004, 2005, and 2006 red wine. The 2004 was my favorite with flavors of cherries, vanilla, and some tobacco. It had a bit more Cab than the other two. I was told that I need to come back in the late afternoon to sit on the patio and watch the sun set over the valley and that I would see an amazing show of changing colors. It’s on my list of things to do.
