I tasted many Washington Merlots on Thursday night between 5pm and 7pm for the online #WAMerlot event. People were invited to open up a Washington Merlot and post their comments on Twitter. This event was created by Josh Wade @NectarWine. It seems that we have a big hit on our hands. There were about 2,000 comments by 500 different people.
I started off at Brian Carter Cellars with Le Coursier which is a Bordeaux blend with Merlot. Its an extremely well balanced wine with dark fruit flavors, not overpowering. Onto Northstar Merlot, Chateau Ste Michelle Reserve Merlot, and Longshadows Pedestal Merlot. I stopped in at Columbia Winery to taste their Columbia Valley Merlot. I also had a sip of their Covey Run Merlot. I ended the evening at home with NW Totem Cellars Merlot. It was a great event and we had people tasting our Washington Merlot all over the US. What Washington wine should we try next time? Ideas?
