I was incredibly lucky to head up to Vancouver for a couple of days for the 2010 Winter Olympics. I did manage to attend the Men’s Sweden vs. Finland (3-0) and a Women’s USA vs. Sweden (9-1) hockey games. In between Olympic events I managed to drink some good Canadian wines. When in Canada, drink Canadian wines!
One of my usual Canadian wines is Jackson-Triggs Vintners. Their Cabernet Sauvignon Proprietors Reserve is great to drink by itself or with food. I always know I can find easily find this wine while visiting Canada. I was happy to see on the bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon that I was drinking that they are the Official Wine Supplier of the 2010 Olympics and Paralympics Winter Games.
While out walking all over the town between games I ended up at The Keg in Yaletown. Needing a glass of something to sustain myself I asked about what Canadian wines they had by the glass. I ended up with a glass of Blasted Church 2007 Syrah from the Okanagan Falls, BC. It has nice peppery and red fruit flavors with a long finish. It’s a great sipper while watching an Olympic hockey game.
Go Team USA! Go Team Canada!

I love the Okanogan region. I love Washington Okanogan reisling and gerwistermeiner! I have never had a chance to sample the Canadian wines. I bet the ice wine is phenomenal! Glad you got to see the U.S. whoop some ass!

Shona – how lucky to be able to go to the games and drink wine! Glad to hear the Blasted Church the “other” Church winery is making some good wine! Great pictures too! See you soon.

I was so lucky to be at the games. I’ve always wanted to go to the Olympics and now I have. Had great seats for both hockeys games. Center ice and about 4th row. I also enjoyed the other Church wine.
