I made sure that I arrived just after noon on Saturday for Gorman Winery’s release event. Chris only opens up the winery once of twice a year so it’s a not to be missed event. Seattle Magazine has even elevated him to cult status. I’m happy to be a part of that cult.
The tasting room filled up pretty fast and everyone seemed to be enjoying all of the wines. I tasted through The Big Sissy Chardonnay, Zachary’s Ladder Red Blend, The Pixie Syrah, and The Evil Twin. I liked each one better as I tasted. I have to say that I really liked The Evil Twin 2007 the best, of the new releases, with black cherry and plum flavors and a long finsih. It’s a 60% Syrah and 40% Cab blend and 100% Red Mountain. The Cab really smooths out the Syrah. It’s only going to get better in the bottle.
Chris has promised a Rose next year. I didn’t get a chance to taste his last Rose’ release. He will also be releasing The Bully and The Albatross in March 2010. Hopefully he will open up the winery for another release party.
