New Future: Washington Wine Ambassadors

by Shona Milne on June 30, 2009

ambassador1Well, it was a sad day on Sunday at the Washington Wine Ambassadors appreciation party at Chateau Ste. Michelle. While we were enjoying the wine and the food everyone was talking about WWA dissolving on June 30th. Karen Graff, the current and final President of the Cork Board, gave me an interview about a possible future for Wine Ambassadors. I know that I want this program to continue and will be happy to help keep the program going.

The Wine Ambassador program has helped my wife and myself become more acquainted with the wines and wineries of Washington State. It has shown us a thriving, new industry; given us new friendships; permitted us to wear a “Will Work For Wine” t-shirt while bicycling around the wall of an Italian town in Tuscany. We feel our volunteer efforts have provided some positive support to Washington’s blossoming wine industry. There are 1,300 other volunteers like us. Seems like an economic error to toss that work force aside.

Jim:
Many of us are dissapointed about WWA ending. After going to the appreciation party on Sunday it seems that there may be a possiblilty that WWA will come back in another form. Keep checking back and I’m sure I’ll post any update I hear of.

Please let me know if a new group has been formed to replace the WA-Wine-Ambassador group.
Thanks JIM

There is really nothing that has replaced the WA Wine Ambassadors. You need to let the individual wineries know that you would like to be a volunteer for them. A bit cumbersome to be sure.
