I stopped by the Grand Opening at Gard Vintners on Saturday. It was a gorgeous day to be out and about with a bonus of tasting wine. It was a packed house and everyone was having a great time with the wine. I tasted through about 15 wines from Alma Terra, Gard, and Smasne Cellars. All of the wines are made by Robert Smasne.
I also stopped by William Church and tasted their latest Viognier; they use concrete and stainless steel tanks. I’m happy to find some white wines to drink now spring has arrived. Leslie offered me a splash of the Bishop’s Blend which I just couldn’t refuse. I really like that blend of six varietals and it’s a great price.
My final stop of the day was at DeLille Cellars. Not a bad place to taste some great wines while sitting out on the patio looking out over the valley. Thank goodness I had the sense to put on sunblock, that sun was intense in the late afternoon. My favorite wine was Doyenne 2006 Grand Ciel Syrah a 98% Syrah and 2% Viognier from Red Mountain. It had flavors of blackberry and vanilla.
