I got talked into going to the Sparkman release on Friday night. It was on my “to do” list for Saturday. It was a release and coronation for Sparkman Cellars 2006 Kingpin Cabernet Sauvignon from Red Mountain. It’s 95% Cab, 4% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot giving it rich flavor with a long finish. I thought it might overpower the lamb burgers with herbed goat cheese. After my second burger I realized that the Kingpin complemented the lamb. Glad I joined my friends, Cindy and Greg on Friday night. Can’t beat great wine, great friends, & lamb burgers to wrap up the week.
I stopped by Hollywood Hill Vineyards just to say hello to Becky and got a pre-release taste of their 2008 Pinot Noir Rose which is from their vineyard about three blocks away on Hollywood Hills. There are not a lot of wines from the Puget Sound AVA due to our wet weather. It has flavors of rhubarb and strawberry poured by Becky, a strawberry blonde. It should be available by the end of the month. Highly recommended for a sunny day.
